Men’s Curling at the 2011 Canada Winter Games set to begin Monday

Halifax, NS – After a day off, the volunteers are back at the Mayflower Curling Club for pre-competition practice.  Today the men’s curling teams arrived at the curling club for pre-competition practice; this is the only time the teams get to practice on the ice and throw the rocks prior to the start of competition. The purpose of pre-competition practice is ice reading, rock matching and familiarize the players with their surroundings.  In other words, feel of the ice under the slider, the sounds within the ice shed, the curl and speed of the ice. 

Once competition begins, each team has a 10 minute practice starting 30 minutes prior to the start of each game on the sheet they will play on and only throwing the stones they will play with.  Competitions begins on Monday, Febraury 21st at the Mayflower Curling Club.

Sheet A Nova Scota vs Prince Edward Island

Sheet B Quebec vs Northwest Territories

Sheet C  Saskatchewan vs New Brunswick

Sheet D Ontario vs British Columbia

Draw 2 – 2:30 p.m.

Sheet A – Quebec vs Saskatchewan

Sheet B – Newfoundland Labrador vs Alberta

Sheet C – Yukon vs Manitoba

Sheet D – New Brunswick vs Nova Scotia
