Nova Scotia 4 – Prince Edward Island 1
Home province fans at the Halifax Metro Centre erupted into hoots and hollers Sunday night when Blayre Turnbull (Stellarton, N.S.) took a snap shot that soared into the back of the Prince Edward Island net to open the scoring in Nova Scotia’s 4-1 win over Prince Edward Island.
Turnbull’s crowd-thrilling goal came on a power play at 8:29 in the first, on a pass out front from Kara Power (New Glasgow, N.S.).But Nova Scotians sat anxiously on the edge of their seats as they watched Shannon MacAuley (Mount Herbert, P.E.I.) tie it up with the man advantage a few minutes later, using some pretty stick work to walk into the slot and light up the lamp.
Both teams continued to create some nice offensive opportunities into the second, making for an exciting on-ice rivalry for the 2,400 ticket holders in attendance. Jennifer MacAskill (Antigonish, N.S.) scored the game winner for Nova Scotia at 5:04 in the period with help from Sarah Robichaud (Weymouth, N.S.) and from there the crowd – and the game – swayed in favour of the host team.
Alexis Crossley (Dartmouth, N.S.) had the fans on their feet again at 13:44 in the second, tipping in a shot from Robichaud on another power play. Robichaud followed that up with her third point of the game and Nova Scotia’s fourth and final goal of the night at 2:15 in the third, again with P.E.I. in the box.
Prince Edward Island goaltenders Catherine Wood (Albany, P.E.I.) and Hayden Pridham (Alberton, P.E.I.) combined to stop 37 Nova Scotia shots over the course of the game.
