First ever results for Paranordic skiers at Canada Winter Games

Yves Bourque of Quebec takes home the Bronze medal after finishing 3rd in the 2.5 KM para sitski event

Sebastien Fortier QC out muscled 2010 Paralympian, Lou Gibson, by 16 sec to take the gold in the 2.5km Para Sitski with Yves Bourque of QC taking bronze.  Christy Cunningham of Kitchener, ON gritted it out on the tricky course which saw more than a few sit skiers tip.  Christy kept her skis on the ground and finished 16 seconds ahead of silver medalist, Christine Gauthier of QC with Ontario rookie sitskier, Tanya Quesnel earning a bronze.

Visually impaired Standing Sitskier, Margarita Gorbounova of ON completed the 2.5km free technique event ahead of BC’s Courtney Knight and Erica Noonan of NF.  In the men’s Standing Sitski, Manitoba’s Slade Doyle out glided New Brunswick’s Louis Fortin, with 17 year old Gabriel Denis taking 3rd place.

Competition continues Tuesday with the 800m Sprint Free Technique event.
