Quebec 5 – Prince Edward Island 0
Halifax, N.S. – Quebec opened and closed the game with powerplay goals Tuesday afternoon in its 5-0 win over Prince Edward Island during Pool B preliminary action at the Metro Centre.
Geneviève Legault kicked it off on the man advantage exactly 13 minutes into the first, with Sarah Lefort (Ormstown, Que.) claiming the helper. Quebec continued its attack on the P.E.I. net into the second, with a goal from Mélodie Bouchard (Sept-Îles, Que.) just 30 seconds into the period. Gabrielle Davidson (Pointe-Claire, Que.) got the assist, following up with a goal of her own six and a half minutes later to make it 2-0 Quebec. Forward Geneviève Bannon (Candiac, Que.) got the puck to Camille Pauck-Therrien (Magog, Que.) at the 10:53 mark for the solid 3-0 lead heading into the third.
Prince Edward Island was unable to capitalize on a couple of Quebec penalties as the clock on the game wound down, but Quebec was able to use a powerplay of its own to top off the score at 4-0 before the final period was up, with Bouchard feeding Lefort for the goal.
Hayden Pridham (Alberton, P.E.I.) may have had four pucks fly past her through the course of the game, but she also stopped 43 of them, with 22 Quebec shots coming in the first period alone. Quebec faces New Brunswick in Wednesday evening’s game at the Metro Centre, while P.E.I. plays Manitoba in the 11:30 a.m. game at the same arena.
