The first session Wednesday morning consisted of matches from all doubles categories – mixed, girls and boys.
Both mixed doubles semi-finals matches were extended to the 5th and deciding set this morning.
Ontario’s James Pintea and Hollie Lau defeated British Columbia’s Mike Yue and Teri Zhou 3-2, while Alberta’s Calvin Chong and Roxana Pao upset the second seeded Quebec team of Mathieu Theriault and Li Quan Ly by the same 3-2 score.
In the current placement matches, Saskatchewan finished 5th by beating Nova Scotia 3-1. Nova Scotia finished 6th. Newfoundland and Labrador finished 9th, while PEI and Manitoba will playoff for 7th Thursday, February 24 at 9:00 a.m.
Ontario will now play Alberta in the gold medal match and British Columbia will face Quebec for the bronze. Both matches are scheduled for 12:00 p.m. Saturday, February 26th.
In girls’ doubles, Alberta and British Columbia advanced to the gold medal match. Alberta’s Yubo Zhang and Jasmine Yao upset the top seeded Ontario pair Shannon Zheng and Jiawei Liu 3-1. British Columbia’s Shirley Fu and Michelle Liaw won 3-1 over Quebec’s Annie Coulombe and Catherine Dauplaise.
In the current placement matches, Saskatchewan defeated Manitoba 3-2 for 5th place. Manitoba finished 6th. Places 7th through 9th will be determined following the match between Nova Scotia and Newfoundland and Labrador on Thursday, February 24th at 10:00 a.m.
Alberta will now play British Columbia for the gold medal and Ontario will face Quebec for the bronze. These matches are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 26th.
In the boys’ doubles, Quebec and Manitoba won their matches to advance to the bronze medal match. Quebec’s Vincent Rousseau-Emond and Michael Siemaszko defeated Nova Scotia’s Dustin Yuill and Josh MacMillan 3-0 while Manitoba’s Terry Zhang and William Liu beat Alberta’s Donny Li and Edward Guo 3-0. Alberta will now play Nova Scotia for 5th. Saskatchewan defeated PEI by default and Newfoundland and Labrador beat the Yukon 3-2. Saskatchewan will now play Newfoundland and Labrador for 7th while PEI plays Yukon for 9th. Nunavut finished 11th.
The gold medal match between Ontario and British Columbia and the bronze medal match between Quebec and Manitoba will take place Saturday, February 26th at 11:00 a.m. All other placement matches are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 24th.
