British Columbia 0 – Quebec 4
Halifax, N.S. – Four different players scored goals to give Quebec its 4-0 shutout win over British Columbia in the first quarter-final of the day Thursday at the Metro Centre. The two teams were matched against each other based on the week’s preliminary round, with B.C. finishing fourth in Pool A and Quebec topping Pool B after four games each.
Camille Pauck-Therrien (Boucherville, Que.) kicked it off for Quebec with an unassisted goal just six and a half minutes into the first, giving her province the confidence it needed to widen that lead through the remaining two periods.
Although there was some back-and-forth action on the ice in the second, British Columbia just couldn’t find the mesh, garnering five shots on the period. Quebec kept the opposition out of their end through the third, with B.C. unable to get a single shot off in the final period.
Quebec, on the other hand, continued to pepper the British Columbia net, with Gabrielle Davidson (Pointe-Clare, Que.) and Alex Lapointe (Mercier, Que.) assisting Vickie Lemire (Hudson, Que.) on a power-play to make it 2-0 at 3:24 in the third. Another penalty for British Columbia resulted in another goal for Quebec, with Laurie Mercier (Rouyn-Noranda, Que.) accepting helpers from both Davidson and Lemire to increase the gap to 3-0 at 14:02 in the period.
With less than a minute and a half left in the game, Sarah Lefort (Ormstown, Que.) topped it off at 4-0 for the Quebecers, securing them a spot in Friday’s semifinals at the Halifax Metro Centre. British Columbia will play in the relegation round.
